Development & Support ............. plus Personalised Learning

... Chilton enables all children to make the most of their talents, grow in confidence and realise their potential.

"

Central to the ethos of the School is highlighting and striving to meet the individual needs of each and every pupil.

Personalised Learning encompasses a broad spectrum of individual needs and caters, amongst others, for those with specific and non-specific learning differences, for our most able learners and for those pupils for whom English is a second language.

The work of the Development and Support Department is fully integrated into the mainstream curriculum and no pupil is stigmatised in any way by their receipt of additional support. Staff specialists in dyslexia, language development, English as an Additional Language - offer support both generally, and specific to a variety of subject areas.

Much of the work of the Department is delivered through the provision of additional sets in Mathematics and English rather than by way of extraction classes. This provision is supported by in-class support, individual teaching, mentoring, unrestricted access and full liaison with other departments.

In recognition of the broad spectrum of our pupils\' individual needs and abilities, the response of the Development and Support Department is, by definition, equally wide ranging, flexible and pragmatic. Many of the students we support have such minor problems that it is unlikely they would receive any learning support in a vast majority of schools, but we are different and believe all pupils should have access to support, whatever their level of need.
