Designer Masks
Year 8 Drama students came up with some innovative designs for their Commedia dell Arte masks. This is an Italian form of sixteenth century mask drama and the students gave each mask a character and a name, such as Recyclio, who was made purely from recycled materials!
Boarders' Ice Skating Trip
Our boarders enjoyed a trip to Basingstoke ice rink at the weekend. After some tentative beginnings they were whizzing around the rink by the end of the day. James Hayton was so professional in his moves that he was approached by the ice hockey team!

We were delighted to welcome 16 pupils from The Park, together with their Head of Sixth Form and Head Teacher, to an evening of friendly debating on 21 February.
The evening was organised by Alice from Chilton and Ellen from The Park. Pupils from Year 7 and above enjoyed the evening, both as a debate and as a social event.
The evening started with a Free Debate on the motion 'This House would prosecute adults for crimes committed by their children', followed by a formal debate where Tim, Ross and Fintan proposed that 'Capitalism has failed' and managed to defeat The Park. Before refreshments, four Chilton pupils paired up with four Park pupils to debate, BP style, that 'Teacher knows best' and in the genial and relaxed spirit of the evening, Dr Price entrusted his study to one of the groups to prepare for the final debate. This was the liveliest of the evening and by mutual agreement of both staff and pupils was won by Zoe and Jan, with Sophie and Chloe in second place.

Last season’s Independent Schools Football Association U16 runners up, Chilton Cantelo, moved into the semi-final of the same competition with a 6-1 win over Frensham Heights School (Surrey) where they will face a repeat of last year’s semi against Chigwell School (Essex).
The first 10 minutes of the game were a tense affair with Frensham putting the Chilton defence under pressure and giving no indication of the result to come. After this spell Chilton settled and started to get the ball on the floor, creating opportunities which the Frensham goalkeeper did well to keep out. The first goal came on 20 minutes with Ben Morton hitting a powerful free kick which the keeper could only parry right into the path of Kieran Beardmore who slotted home. Shortly after the goal a rare piece of incisiveness allowed a Frensham player to win the ball back in the final third and fire in an unstoppable shot from 25 yards.
The second half saw Chilton start very brightly and take over the game. Within 15 minutes Chilton took a 4-1 advantage with 2 goals from Ben Morton and a Lewis Bloomer strike. All three goals were the culmination of some great passing play. Frensham tried to play their way back into the game but by committing players forward they left space for Chilton to exploit, catching Frensham on the break twice more, through Dan Trapnell and Myles Pike, to seal a 6-1 win. Coach Kevin Wagland said “This was a pleasing result against a very big and physical side. Chilton played much the better football and getting into another National Semi Final continues to cement Chilton’s reputation, not only in football but sport in general”

The Prep celebrated their own French Day by arriving for School dressed in French-style fancy dress or in the colours of the tricolor. They enjoyed delicious pain au chocolat in their continental cafe at morning break and Boeuf Bourguignon for lunch followed by crepes. In the afternoon they set off into the grounds for a treasure hunt for French flags and finished the day by gathering together to sing songs in French and hear Year 6 present the weather forecast - in, you've guessed it, French. A fabulous day was enjoyed by all, raising many smiles around the Prep and Senior School.

ISFA Small Schools Cup News
Congratulations to the Chilton Cantelo School 1st XI who are through to the next round of the Independent Schools Football Association Small Schools Cup, having beaten Frensham Heights 6-1 at home this afternoon. The boys particularly enjoyed their match tea after a very chilly afternoon on the pitch!

The season started with the Leweston Cross Country team event. Our team of Danielle Everett, Laura Coppard, Issy Haigh and Shanna Farthing represented the school admirably in the U19 event.
The District Championships saw Danielle and Laura, together with Brett Dickinson and James Thorner all qualifying for the County Championships in the U17 category, where Laura achieved a very credible 18th place and was made reserve for the County team.
Our Year 7 runners continue to enjoy a superb season. Harry Panayides and Josh Eglen both qualified for the County Championship. Jake Mepham and James Cridland both had excellent performances but were unlucky to just miss out on the next stage.
Amy Luck, Siobhan Reynolds and Lauren Symonds all qualified for the County Championships, where Amy qualified for the County Team and Lauren made reserve.
Most recently, the Year 7s have all represented Chilton Cantelo at the Independent Schools Association South West Championships in Gloucester. After the fantastic performances in Gloucester, we now have four lucky athletes heading off to the ISA National Championships in March. We wish Amy Luck, Lauren Symonds, Siobhan Reynolds and Harry Panayides the very best of luck.

We were joined in assembly this morning by Mr Phil Jones of Schoolchildren for Children, who talked to the children about this superb charity supported by Freddie Flintoff, Martin Johnson, Theo Walcott and Dame Kelly Holmes. The charity helps improve the lives of children in developing countries by inspiring school children in the UK to raise funds for some of the world's most disadvantaged children.
Double Olympic Champion and National Sport Champion Dame Kelly Holmes is supporting the charity and said 'With the London Olympics coming up, we have a real opportunity to inspire children to exercise and to promote a healthier future for the UK'.
Money raised by schoolchildren in the UK helps improve the lives of children in developing countries, including a school in Korogocho, one of Kenya's largest slums and home to some of the world's most disadvantaged children. Schoolchildren for Children finances an education, nutrition and medical programme for 80 AIDS orphans and children made vulnerable by AIDS at St Prisca in Korogocho. The grant provides much-needed schools uniforms, text and exercise books for the children and teaching and reference materials for a local pre-school. A daily hot meal and medical support is also available for all the children. Due to the success of the project another four schools are being set up in the neighbouring area.

Three teams represented Chilton in the first round of the competition for 14–17 year olds at Wadham school on Thursday 2nd February. Ross McKendrick, Louis Mustin and Alice Richmond gave interesting and humourous speeches, ably supported by Jodie Mustin, Arthur Morris, Jan Leiberum, James Hayton, Tim Fawkes and Danni Everett as Chairpersons and Proposers of the vote of thanks.
For some of the teams, this was the first time they had spoken at a public speaking event, and while we did not advance to the next round on this occasion, they should all be very proud of their achievements. They had excellent feedback from the judges, both on the content of their speeches and the way they presented themselves as courteous and friendly young people. We look forward to seeing their progress in future events and to supporting our successful Intermediate team in their second round on February 29th!

Year 3 Visit Gore Farm

On Wednesday the 1st of February Year 3 visited Gore Farm. We met Stuart Casely, who showed us a lot of the ways in which Gore Farm recycle. We enjoyed a tractor ride and rode all over the farm before going to find out how they look after all the animals (and even how they deal with all the animal waste too!)
We saw some wild deer running through the field as we walked around and we met some brand new calves, who were less than seven days old.
The farm pond was totally frozen over so we couldn’t dip into it but the fish swam over (under the layer of ice) to say hello. We are planning to return in the spring to look at how the pond has changed with the seasons.
We also met the cheeky goats, a very large turkey and the pet partridges. We had a fantastic time, and can’t wait to go back. Thanks Stuart and Tessa!

Great Britain Selection for Ollie
Congratulations to Year 7 pupil Oliver Beardmore, who has been selected by the British Dance Council to represent Great Britain at the World Dance Championships in Blackpool in April.
Oliver has been dancing with his partner, Maria, since 2007 and they were delighted to reach the quarter finals of the Disney U12 Latin dance category at the World Dance Council competition in Paris in December.
