Rotary Youth Speaks
Posted on 17 January 2012Two teams from Chilton participated in the first round of the Intermediate Youth Speaks competition organised by the Rotary Club of Yeo Vale on Monday 16 January. Our first team - Alana Stewart, Kitty Edgerley (Speaker) and Frankie Knight - entertained us with a talk on ‘Dance’. Our second team - Declan Kinsella, Fintan Munnery (Speaker) and Ollie Smith - informed and amused us on the subject of ‘Politicians v Celebrities’, inspired by a Year 9 assembly.
To a large audience of around 70 Rotarians, parents and teachers, our teams competed against teams from the Park School, whose subjects, to show that Public Speaking really can be fun, included ‘Sweat’, ‘The stuff of life – all about bread’ and ‘Love it or hate it – Marmite is this subject’.
The event was won by Park Team 1 on the topic ‘Ties and Teachers’, with our boys coming second. Both teams progress to the next round at Puddletown Middle School, Dorset on 29th February. You are warmly invited to attend.
Many congratulations to both teams for the incredibly high standard they achieved – and thanks to parents and staff for their support.
