Chilton Cantelo School

Medical Care

Our Medical Centre is run by a full-time RGN, Mrs Helen Cheleda, who has over 20 years experience in Accident & Emergency and Intensive Care. Helen was Practice Nurse at Sherborne Surgery before joining us at Chilton Cantelo.

All boarders are registered with our School Doctor and given a medical check-up when they arrive. Boarders can visit the Doctor during the weekly drop-in clinic or make additional appointments via the Medical Centre. Boarders are registered with a local dentist for either routine or urgent dental care. Qualified first aiders are on duty overnight and many day staff are also designated first aiders. Should emergency medical treatment be necessary, the School is just 10 minutes from Yeovil District Hospital.

Nurse Cheleda is also on hand throughout the day for children with concerns or worries to talk to. She provides both a confidential ear and a supportive shoulder, as well as promoting health, providing advice on diet and support with medical conditions such as diabetes and asthma. She escorts pupils to dental, optician, orthodontic and out patient appointments and assists with childhood immunisations and vaccinations.

In addition to our medical and tutor teams, students also have access to the School Chaplain and an independent Counsellor.
