Prep School

Welcome to the Preparatory Department section of the website. Here at Chilton Cantelo we believe firmly that by providing a happy, caring and safe environment where each child’s individuality is valued, we give every pupil the best opportunity to achieve to their potential. Academic achievement is only one part of the picture, however. Our best product is the children themselves, and we encourage our pupils to take responsibility, look after each other, and be articulate and courteous. Confidence is vitally important, and we provide opportunities to develop in our pupils the confidence to tackle life’s challenges head on.

A combination of small classes and a broad curriculum allows us to find every child’s strengths and allow them to flourish, whilst supporting them in any areas they find more challenging. English, Mathematics and Science naturally form the core of our curriculum, but our pupils also study French, History, Geography, Information Technology, Religious Studies, Art, Music, Drama, PE (including Games and Swimming) and Personal, Social, Health and Citizenship Education (PSHCE). A programme of afternoon and after-school clubs and activities offers further opportunities to learn, achieve and enjoy.

Whilst pupils sit standardised tests in order to inform our learning and teaching, we do not prepare our pupils formally for the government’s National Curriculum attainment tests (SATs) at the end of Year 6, thus allowing pupils to join the Preparatory Department at any stage during Key Stage 2.
