Prep Department
An opportunity to acquire knowledge and develop as an individual - year 5 parent
"
Pupils follow courses appropriate to, but not slavishly driven by, the National Curriculum.
At Key Stage 2 (in the Preparatory Department) the timetable is broad, but remains weighted in favour of literacy and numeracy, with Mathematics, English, Science and Information and Communication Technology as the cornerstones. The remainder of the timetable comprises French, History, Geography, Religious Instruction, Art and Design, Music, PE (including Games, Swimming and Martial Arts), Drama, Food Technology and Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE).
Whilst pupils sit standardised tests, in order for assessment to inform planning and learning, they are not formally prepared for National Curriculum testing (SATs) at the end of Year VI. This approach allows pupils to join our Preparatory Department at any stage during Key Stage 2.
Pupils are assessed using Cognitive Ability Tests in Year V (or Year VI, if they enter the School in this year group). This testing forms part of our baseline assessment of pupils and helps to identify particular strengths or weaker areas for individual pupils
