I have a passion for science. Daily life is filled with ‘things’ that make our lives easier; whether it is a strip of Velcro, a motor car or a mobile telephone. Who invented or discovered the technology? How is it made? How does it work? Questions, questions and more questions.
Science is full of questions and occasionally, we can supply the answers to the eager knowledge-thirsty students in our classes. I started teaching science over thirty years ago; no mobile telephones, no home computers, no video recorders and chalk still the tool of classroom writing! We did have electric light and black and white text books.
Many of the topics I teach today were distant dreams in the 70’s and 80’s. The content of science teaching changes with the march of discovery and invention. No two classes are alike. At Chilton we have the flexibility to adapt and change the content of the teaching to reflect the interest and ability of the students whilst ensuring that the prescribed curriculum is soundly taught.
An additional strength of the science department is the diversity of staff who teach their specialised subjects from a variety of previous working experiences.
The Science Department has benefited from a substantial refurbishment and a well provided budget for resources which is providing our excellent facilitators with additional facilities. This ensures that the richness of the curriculum is delivered in an exciting practical way to enthuse science to students across the school. Whether students are aiming for a career in science or a basic understanding we feel confident we can offer them a value added experience.
