(Key Stage 4)
The results of internally-assessed National Curriculum tests at the end of Year IX, together with further cognitive assessment, allow pupils to make informed choices from a very broad range of Key Stage 4 options and thus to play to their strengths. For example, it is possible to take three Modem languages - plus Latin - or none! A wide range of practical subjects is also available: CDT (Resistant Materials), CDT (Food Technology), CDT (Art and Design), Drama and Music. All students take Core Science, examined in Year X. They may then continue in Year XI to take the three Separate Sciences or Additional Science.
At Key Stage 4, examination results have to be a priority. With pupils following courses in their preferred subject areas, supported by a most favourable teacher to pupil ratio, together with a comprehensive Personalised Learning Programme (which includes academic mentoring and Easter Revision Courses), Chilton (a non-selective school) appears regularly at (or very near) the top of the tables for the county of Somerset. Although we offer places to pupils of a broad range of academic ability, results are significantly above those which they might be expected to attain given their measured Cognitive Ability. The 'Value Added' Chilton offers at GCSE is outstanding and students can expect to produce results of which they can be justifiably very proud.
